I'm sure many of you have been consumed by the books written by the late Stieg Larsson like I was. They were absolutely compelling and I ploughed through them in a week and that was only because I had to wait to get book three(grrr-dont you just hate waiting for the next book!!).If you haven't read them yet I highly recommend them but I warn you-best not read on an empty stomach,in a dark house, late at night, alone or outside. You'll see what I mean....
In "girls night out without children"excitement, my lovely friend and I took ourselves off to see the first of the films "The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo" which apparently was originally ( and I believe in Europe still is) called "Men Who Hate Women". Gritty is my word.Friend went with 'raw'.For some absurd reason we were both momentarily stumped when the dialogue was in swedish. We also noted that the characters looked 'real'.Wow.Are we that Americanised in our perception of how even films from other countries will look and sound?Bad reflex.
It was very good and despite some rearranging (rather than veering off the story road) it really did keep to the core dynamic of the book.We were also very pleased to discover that we were not alone in our yelps, gasps, ducking of heads and hands clasped to faces.Quite funny to notice that a lot of these moments happened in anticipation because we had read the book and knew certain moments were about to happen."Freaking the living daylights" out of the audience.Thats how Henry would put it but he's eight.I think "scaring the pants off everyone" is just as appropriate.
If you loved the books and hungered for more I don't think you will be disappointed.Besides that I find the author himself to be very interesting and I wonder what his take on all the success and international interpretation of his work would be.
Anyway I am off to bed as it is late and I am too old for late!I want to go and lie on this gorgeous perfect sofa that needs to come and place its bottom in my loungeroom right this minute!!
