One of the joys of Christmas I find,is the absolute delight in all things bright and beautiful.Candles lit late afternoon to spread a little warmth and glow.Fairylights strung up and draped over many a surface for the purpose of making twinkling starlight in your own home.Sparkling light is an enduring image of Christmas. It lends magic wherever it finds its home.
Last year, one of the primary causes for our giddy childlike "aaaaahh" moments were quite simply-fairylights.Down laneways, strung along mainstreets,in loungeroom windows-they were everywhere and we oohhed and aaahhd accordingly. You see,its not such a magical thing here. The sun is awake far too long so by the time you can enjoy the candles and the lights the children are asleep and you are not far off yourself. The streets are not dressed with the same level of sparkle and romance and many are not dressed for christmas at all.It is this time of year we wish we were living in a cold white wonderland with limited daylight.I know Sydney New Years Eve fireworks are possibly the best in the world.I know our beaches are incredibly beautiful and we have an amazing country.I know this ,yet I never really feel like its christmas here. Its too hot and too bright and champagne and lobster while sweating in a paper hat is not a pretty festive sight I assure you.For me christmas must be white, cold and dark with sparkles.
I love the simplicity of this light display. It conveys cozyness and joy.And cold.Oh to require the wearing of uggboots as practical footwear. We were asked by a storeowner in Wimbledon last year if Australians wore uggboots out and about like the British.Nope.Aussies wear them as slippers.Wouldn't be caught dead walking the street in a pair.Apart from anything else, it is never ever cold enough so the ladies I saw wearing them last 'winter' were just slaving to the trend.I bet their feet were sweating....
Living in South Florida I miss out on feeling like it's Christmas. It's hard when the rest of the country is talking about sitting next to a cozy fire and roasting chestnuts (or whatever it is they do when it's cold).
My daughter is wearing a sundress today - the fake wreath is on the front door (the tropical sun turns real ones brown) - we're ready for Christmas.

Well, it's cold and dark here early! It does make for festive Christmas decorations, but after it's over it's very depressing- I make it till the beginning of February and think I'll die before it ever gets green again. I had to laugh about the Ugg boots because I wear mine almost everyday and I love them- they are about my only winter shoes(I live in flip-flops until my toes turn blue, which was just recently).

As always gorgeous picture Clare. I can't stand ugg boots my feet get to hot even when it is cold... I find the ugg boot look odd especially when it is so often teamed with a miniskirt? I love fairly lights I think we'll be doing a lot of walking around the streets to show my boys the lights this Christmas. Anyhow don't forget to let me know your address so I can send you a Robot.

I personally love the light decorations that you see around your neighbor. I also like how everyone is so friendly.
