I'm outnumbered.Two kids.One mother.The laundry is in terrifying piles as are the dishes.My patience is wafer thin and I am trying to do it all without the medicinal glass of wine.Blah.Its not even that I can't stand husband being away.The boys and I have a good routine and between school and after school activities the time goes quickly.On the weekends I almost prefer it. We go to food markets and have picnics and go out for breakfast.Things that husband prefers not to do.Its the adult conversation I miss.Only small voices to be heard day in day out.

Unfortunately this time around he is away when I really need someone to pick up my slack.And boy do I have some slack at the moment.Two big commitments back to back are just about killing me so the house has been sacrificed.And I volunteer too much at school so days fly by without so much as a full days sewing to be seen.We have had over two weeks of it now and another six I think to go so please bear (grrrr) with me.I won't be here much at all.Having said that of course I'm sure I will make a liar of myself and start posting regularly again but I know I have been terribly crap this year(hanging head in shame).

And our bedroom looks like  a sweatshop.

I am working on new mobiles.new dolls,new childrens costume(s?) and a few other bits and pieces and thats just one group.

Ok.Thanks for listening.I have to go-the boys are scootered up and waiting by the front door.Guess I'll be stuffing arms and legs on the street!!

The dust.Sydney woke to an orange haze yesterday courtesy of a dust storm whipped up and travelling north on the coat tails of some wild winds from Broken Hill.Extraordinary!! What truly amazed me were the number of people still out jogging,swimming their laps,walking,hanging out.Alot of them ended up in emergency with breathing problems.Go figure.You could taste it even inside the buildings.It came through cracks and window gaps and anyway it could.The leaves on the trees were orange.And apparently Godzilla was seen in Sydney harbour!!

I'm not sure how I feel about his one.Reused purple linen all lovely and frayed and then topped off with a doiley from my Grandmothers collection.A box of treats I was lucky enough to receive when she died.A strange square cut hip flare to the frock and lots of tulle.Not what was in my head but Henry thinks shes gorgeous and little quirky looking so I'm letting her grow on me.I think she needs a wrap of some sort.Maybe some spectacles.

a little dinner conversation -never talk politics and religion.oops

In this house we do not practice any form of religion regularly.I believe we are known as E and C's although admittedly,that is more due to my love of tradition rather than a yearning to enter a church.Its not even that I don't necessarily 'believe'.More a case of preferring to believe in me.I am responsible for myself and my happiness,health,behaviour.You name it.

I once shared house with a girl who was frightened to get out of bed if she had not been spoken to in her sleep to tell her to be good,have a great day,whatever.I also spent some time wasting my life with someone who regularly trotted up to the local church to be absolved of his 'sins' on a weekly basis so he could continue to do them.Which he did.

 I have good friends who happily practice and those who happily don't.We walk in our own shoes.

From time to time Henry has enquired about God.Scripture is offered once a week at school so we asked if he would like to go.He did for a little while but as he got older he pulled away from it feeling that so many things make no sense.He is somewhat scientific.An enormous collision is a far more tangible explanation for him, and an interest, so thats fine with us.If he veers back towards religion later on,he will be encouraged to explore those thoughts and feelings as before.

Oliver has been a darker horse.After not much interest,at the start of this year he found himself sharing a table with a couple of children from quite devout families.He began to come home with sayings that he administered with great conviction.It was really very interesting.He was overheard telling Henry one day (after Henry had tossed Oliver's pencil on the floor) that God would burn him to fire with his eyes and he would die and be gone.Wow.

A little while ago I put his name down for scripture.As with Henry,I told them that the moment he resisted going he was to be allowed to resign.

The boys and I have just had dinner and this happened.....

Oliver was sitting at the kitchen table telling us that Gods eyes see everywhere and into everything and that God is everywhere.I asked him who told him this and he leant forward to whisper “God told me “ and made the shhhh with his finger on his lips.So I asked him……..

What do you do in scripture?

We get a piece of paper and we colour in.We have a little baby and some grass on the piece of paper in a basket and Marry is protecting him and she close the basket then she putted a brown towel on the basket then Marry left and the baddies ripped the towel off then he opened it then Jesus was on the floor when she comed back and he was crying.Marry was coming and she heard the baby so she runned and she couldn’t find the baby.She said “ Ohh baby”!!

Then the God gave Jesus a stick and he touched the wada and it opened then they walked fru then Jesus told all the men to come fru then he touched it again and shutted it after.

After Jesus ,all the men were trying to get them then they said in a big voice ‘tell me what you did with the stick God’ and God said ‘ I don’t have the stick,Jesus does and he touched the wada and so you can’t get fru people”.

Jesus had his birfday and he flew up to God so he’s sixteen now.He used to be four but God magicked him to sixteen.

God is the guy who’s up in the cloud and he’s the cloud dad.So God made Jesus a king because he was so good and he did what his dad said.

When Gods tired he puts his foot up on the cloud and then he finks like this(finger tapping chin) and he finks what hes going to do next.

God loves Jesus so the…. the… “ok Ive got it”, he only sees us down from (he’s up in the clouds )so he only can see the world and blue and white and green and yellow.

*Keeping in mind that my sweet six year old has a voice like James Earl Jones.And his pronunciations a little creative  : ) And his gesticulations are insanely brilliant.They are a feature film all to themselves.

Where have I been all week?

Vintage white linen washed and stitched.Scarily fragile but perfect.Tick

Bridal tulle.Tick

Metallic thread.Ooohh big tick.Nice stuff.Sharper than you would imagine though,when a random strand decides it likes the tip of your finger.

Feathers.All over my house-undustable,unwipeable floating bits of fluff.They like my hair?!?

Finally completing someone I drew back in February.Oh HUGE tick.

Would you take her for a twirl? Shes a night owl.She literally shimmers in the moonlight.

She has  friends coming.They are some of the creations I am getting ready for the Balmain Art & Craft Show in November.

for the three year old

Little Miss God Daughter became three today.A milestone.No longer a toddler but a child on a path to school and bus passes and pocket money spent on sweets.I think three is huge.She was certainly flexing those attitude muscles today!!

The best bit? When she peered inside and exclaimed " but where is everyone"!!!! I neglected to fill it with a winged family.Sorry Lola.xx

My first attempt at residential construction.A little reworking on the door fittout might be in order.....

a peek

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend.I actually found myself yearning for school holidays today in the midst of assignment stress! Fancy that......

This is a little look at a couple of things I am getting ready for November.It will be here before we know it and there are too many things to get done.Grrr.My list is long and the days are too short it seems.

Stockings.Large enough for a puppy or a decent sized box of lego I think.

 I am really happy with how beautifully they have turned out.The embroidery I am super pleased with as this is a relatively new adventure for me.And linen.LOVE linen.

They feel lovely too as they are fully lined so the is just right.Lucky kids I say!

I have also been making stocking fillers for girls.

Big girls or little girls as I must say they look as good on my yummy Boden jacket as they do on a three year old.Not bad pinned to a flouncy skirt either.And the colours are like rainbows and candy.Delicious!!

This computer is playing up and I am having serious trouble uploading photos.I will put the stockings in the shop this week available to order and I'll pop some brooches in as well.I have been working on some mobiles too which I am loving- toadstools/man on the moon/its raining.Sooooo cute.

My (oops...'our') bedroom floor is strewn with piles of things.Branches,stuffing,hoops.tulle.Its like student days again! A boutique market and an art/craft show back to back.What was I thinking? Although I am secretly loving having a deadline.Bring it on!!

 Never have I tried to make so many things at one time ( throw custom orders in to the mix just to spice it up) and the house is showing it sadly.I was asked the other day if I had thought about perhaps doing some laundry.Why????Don't the house fairies come and do all that........do you think they will pick the kids up from school too............?

And because I can't sit and do nothing,I have just crocheted another cushion.Like we need one!!  I should sit on my hands.
