Henry has a favourite book and this is the title written by Carolyn Crimi. It is a book about sea faring pirate bunnies who sail the seas on a ship called 'The Salty Carrot".Captain Black Ear has a son named Henry who would rather read books than shout "shiver me timbers".More than once my Henry has dressed up to play the part of "Henry" in the school book parade. Of course Henrys love of reading (sly ulterior motive book purchase wasnt it?) ends up saving the day when they become marooned on an island!!
There has been a young woman in the cafe some mornings. She is very pregnant and sits there in the corner on her chair and knits.I watch somewhat jealously because she seems to be knitting something tricky(for which I do not have the skill) and she has mastered the 'yarn hooked over the finger just so' technique-I never managed to progress from the taught hold of yarn in my right hand. She can knit and sip!
I didn't fall off the planet -just got trapped behind the sewing paraphanalia and couldn't find my way out!!I would show you a photo of where I am working but to be honest you can't actually get near enough to see it properly at the moment-husband just loves me.I think it is more a case of our bed being in my studio than my desk being in our bedroom.Hmmm.Not the only ones though right??
About 15months ago ,while sitting at dinner,Oliver started to go very red very fast.It started under his left eye and spread in patches across his face and down his neck. This was our first taste of his skins spontaneous and unexplainable reactions. We had noticed dry skin under both his eyes and across his torso but there was nothing else happening,so we put it down to simply that.Dry skin. After this outbreak we took him to a pediatrician. After initially trying to suggest that he was possibly autistic (based on the fact that he didn't want to take off his Thomas the Tank Engine backpack?!?!?),she conceded that he was an eczema sufferer and we should slather QV cream over his body.We did and the screams that followed as it 'burnt' his skin were horrific. We had to wash it all off again very quickly and very carefully. After that we didn't go back to the doctor.I read everything I could.I eliminated everything from his diet and slowly introduced things back in.The problem was ,and still is,that there was no particular culprit.Climate and diet are to blame and it all depends on the day or the week as to which ones will cause a flare up.Chickweed ointment is great and I keep it in the fridge.Thankfully we eventually found a natural bath wash that works nicely and he knows to only use a tiny drop and that's only if he's really grubby!
Thankyou all so much for being lovely and joining in my fun:) I would send a mobile to every one of you but ,unless I win lotto ( and there is the constant hope of that happening..),it can only be one.
Henry made a little request.A pigeon he said.Hmmmmm I replied.I love the way ideas evolve. You sit at your desk and while you stitch or draw, your eyes fall on things scattered around you and new ideas begin to form. You play.Sometimes it works ,sometimes it certainly doesn't.I don't think there are really mistakes.Just different paths to take as a design takes on its own life. Somehow from 'pigeon' I have ended up with Doris. She told me who she was rather than me thinking who she might be.Really all the pink should lean perhaps toward Ms Cartland but Doris was quite adamant. From here I seem to have begun a small series of big birds based on various fabulous female film stars of old.Strong women.Women with 'spunk' and 'class'.I have no idea where this will go or what it will be for ,but for me,for now, it is just fun.Simple.
